When You’re a Superpower, Life’s A Blast

18 Jul

Isao Hashimoto (of the CTBTO) mapped out (in a colorful, child approved info-video) the 2053 nuclear detonations and safety tests that occurred between the birth of the bomb in the US’s 1945 Manhattan Project up until 1998 when all the “nuclear club” member card holders decided things were getting out of hand and signed a treaty that halted the tests and development of all nuclear armaments. North Korea, who has a fake ID, didn’t get the memo. Needless to say the US -with special guest Britian- and Russia bombed the shit outta themselves for 40+ years. France, on the other hand stuck to bombing places where brown people lived.

Fonzworth Bentley “Venice Beaches”

30 Apr

As mundane as a trip to the beach is, complete with forgetting ones headphones and taking an impromptu trip to Sears, this video has got some real style which i can appreciate. Mr Bentley’s come a long way from being Diddy’s man servant.

His Britishly-spelled album COLOURS is available now (iTunes)

ScienZe “Song In A Glass”

30 Apr

The visuals for this track were the totality of my adolescent existence. Relaxed summer night, bar, lots of drinks….good times. ScienZe is easily, my favorite MC for 2011.

The eagerly anticipated (by me) Simply Aesthetic EP lands in my music library May 10th.

Junk Science & Scott Thorough “Pixelated”

30 Apr

The is literally one of the worst and — ironically– one of the best video’s I’ve seen in a long while. Seriously though, the video is so bad it does a disservice to the song, which form what little of it I managed to process during the brief moments my attention broke free from the 8-bit overlays and the aborted Zach Galifianakis clone hilariously rocking the best of late 80′s/90′s casual wear, wasn’t that bad. For all it does wrong, the nostalgia factor makes it worth the watch for anyone who considered their NES a part of the family. How many classics can you name?

MC, Baje One and DJ Snafus’ [Junk Science] video game themed full length, appropriately titled Phoenix Down the drops on the 31st. Bonus info after the jump. Continue reading

Qatar Builds Clouds… Because they can

27 Mar

Ahhh the World Cup. One of the most facinating things about the games is how newly selected World Cup host nations prepare themselves for the coming of the world’s most popular sporting event. Some taught all their cab drivers to speak English. Others dusted all the undesirables off the street corners. Qatar on the other hand addressed the incredible inefficiency and unreliability of clouds…by building their own.

SUPER HEROES

26 Mar

Comic book super heroes have never been as popular as they are today. “Thor” and “X-Men: First Class” may be hitting theaters first this year but “Captain America: The First Avenger” is the film most comic book fans are waiting for. Check out the lastest trailer.

Photographer Agan Harahap put his own juxtaposing spin on a host of iconic comic book characters (including Cap), in his comical and sometimes thought provoking photo series dubbed “SUPER HERO”

Big K.R.I.T “Dreamin”

26 Mar

A long, long time ago on a site far, far away I once wrote: “Big K.R.I.T, Fashawn and Chiddy Bang are gonna be the three to watch in ’10.” And what do ya know? All three acts made waves last year. Chiddy Bang provided the backdrop to a series of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit video game adds and was included in the games soundtrack. Fashawn was featured as part of the coveted XXL ” ’10 freshmen” issue. And Big K.R.I.T’s K.R.I.T Waz Here mixtape set the Hip Hop blog-o-sphere ablaze. Now his follow up mixtape — the eagerly anticipated Returnof4eva — is set to drop on Monday. In the meantime, he released a video for the track Dreamin’ to tide us over.
