Big K.R.I.T “Dreamin”

26 Mar

A long, long time ago on a site far, far away I once wrote: “Big K.R.I.T, Fashawn and Chiddy Bang are gonna be the three to watch in ’10.” And what do ya know? All three acts made waves last year. Chiddy Bang provided the backdrop to a series of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit video game adds and was included in the games soundtrack. Fashawn was featured as part of the coveted XXL ” ’10 freshmen” issue. And Big K.R.I.T’s K.R.I.T Waz Here mixtape set the Hip Hop blog-o-sphere ablaze. Now his follow up mixtape — the eagerly anticipated Returnof4eva — is set to drop on Monday. In the meantime, he released a video for the track Dreamin’ to tide us over.

The CPT002, The Aston Martin of Smartphones

26 Mar

Who steps out of an Aston Martin DB9 with a pedestrian iPhone 4 or worse yet, a proletariat symbol of poverty like a BlackBerry something or another? When you drive a V12 Vantage, you need a phone equally as sexy, exclusive and luxurious…at least that’s what the people at luxury phone maker – Mobiado and British luxury sport car manufacturer- Aston Martin decided after a long night of drinking Indian forest gooseberry champagne from unicorn horns. (rich people do stuff like that right?) More grandiose banter and pics after the jump Continue reading

ScienZe “History (Play By Play)”

21 Mar

Last new video for today comes from ScienZe. Not only is this song a great example of what Hip Hop should be, but it’s off my favorite mixtape of ’10: Hall Pass. You can grab the mixtape and some of his other projects at his website (scienzeclass)

Versis “Life Story”

21 Mar

I’m really not trying to deluge this site with a flood of music videos but there’s just too much dope music out there. So as long as there’s new and talented artists in the business like California resident: Versis, (who has a marked resemblance, in sound and style, to another another Cali artist and Exile collaborator, Blu) I feel I must give credit where credit is due. With Exile on the boards, Versis breaks down his life in a fresh visual aid for the audibly prepared.

His album iLLCANDESCENT, is avaiable now (bandcamp)

Zo! “Greater Than The Sun” feat. Phonte

21 Mar

Producer Zo! and former MC turned neo-soul vocalist, Phonte (of Little Brother) teamed up for “Greater Than the Sun,” the opening track off Zo!’s new SunSpot LP, available now (itunes)(Amazon)(+FE Music Store). Being one of my favorite rappers, I was a bit dismayed when Te’ put down the mic and…well picked it back up again and started singing over Dutch producer, Nicolay’s beats as part of the Grammy nominated duo: The Foreign Exchange. Since then I’ve grown to appreciate his new direction. He definitely has a vocal style of his own, one that works very well with Zo!’s smooth production.

Fresh Produce: Who Am I Again?

17 Mar anon

This week marked the 5th anniversary of the social networking phenomenon that proved that we as consumers like new products which allow us to do less than existing ones (we see you Apple). 140 characters, no pictures, a new use for the @ sign…who would of thought that that would be the recipe for success? The answer: the 200 million people who religiously use the service in desperate pleas for attention to forge themselves an identity in space historically associated with anonymity – teh interwebs. But not everyone shares that willingness to let utter strangers know how good that sandwich they just had was or what their next tattoo is going to be. No, some believe the ability to express who you really are while at the same time hide who you really are, is the greatest aspect of the world wide web.

Oddisee f. Toine “Different Now”

15 Mar

My favorite DMV area rapper/producer gets together with Toine of DTMD for a rather mature (not in an xxx way) and introspective track off Mellow Music Groups “Helpless Dreamer” album available now (itunes)(bandcamp). Honestly, as the industry gets older, i wish more rappers would also grow up with it.

Mos Def “World Premiere”

12 Mar

The mighty Mos Def appeared on Fuel TV’s entertainment variety show – The Daily Habit and premiered to the world his new single titled “World Premiere.” I’m hoping he’s got a new project in the works as well.

ReadNex Poetry Squad “A Tree Grows In A Place Called Home”

11 Mar

It’s hard to believe that these guys are three albums deep and I’m just now hearing of them. Consisting of Jarabe del Sol, Latin Translator, Decora, Freeflowin & DJ H20, the quintet sends a very jazzy salute out to NY’s solitary flora conservatory aka Brooklyn.

The Day Before Sound is out now. Grab it via (itunes)
